Theatre vs OTT
Movies are well-known as a popular source of entertainment as well as a platform for educating people. Some films have had a significant impact on modern culture by shedding light on social concerns, advancing ideas, and presenting true stories to educate and re-educate people all over the world.
I conducted a survey in which I asked 10 people if they preferred theatre or OTT and the reasons for their choice of preference.
6 out of 10 people told me they prefer watching movies in the theatre as they think it is a much better experience to watch movies on the big screen as the picture quality is high resolution; some liked that the movies also offer an immersive experience with their 3D and 4D technology, they also liked that it has a proper sound quality system; and few prefered having an audience reaction as it's a whole different experience to watch a movie with a group of people who are equally invested in the movie as everyone else.
4 out of the 10 people preferred OTT as they liked watching movies at their own home in a much more relaxed ambience with no disturbance from anyone. They also liked that they could watch the movies at their own pace, as they could pause, rewind, and play the movie whenever they wanted. OTT movies are also easier to access with more subtitle and dubbing options, and a few of them also think it's less time-consuming and cost-efficient than going to a theatre.
In summary, the cinematic experience can never be replaced, as it offers a completely different thrill when watching a movie on the big screen, especially if it's a 3D or a 4D movie. On the other hand, OTT platforms offer a variety of content choices for viewers (old and new movies), making them more accessible, while also including subtitles and dubbing options for global audiences. Therefore, both platforms will continue to exist while adapting to the rapidly changing entertainment industry.
